Recreational equipment retailer Gander Mountain Co. said President and Chief Executive Mark R. Baker resigned to become president and chief operating officer of Scotts Miracle-Gro Co.

Baker, who also served as a Gander board member, had been a member of Scotts' board since 2004. His resignation is effective at the end of the month, at which time Chairman David C. Pratt will serve as interim CEO. Pratt will continue as chairman when he becomes interim CEO, but will leave the company's compensation and governance and nominating committees.

Gander said late Monday that its board will look for a permanent CEO immediately.
