Cost Plus Inc. said Thursday that the former president of teen retailer Tween Brands Inc. has been appointed to its board of directors.

Kenneth T. Stevens, who was also the chief operating officer of Tween Brands before resigning in June, will serve on the board until the home decor retailer's annual meeting next summer.

Cost Plus, based in Oakland, operates 296 Cost Plus World Market stores in 33 states.

Its shares fell 8 cents, or 6 percent, to $1.24 in afternoon trading.
