Conn. lawmakers seek fair play on space suit bids

Members of Connecticut's congressional delegation are urging NASA to review its selection process as it considers bids for the next generation of space suits.

Sen. Joe Lieberman and representatives Joe Courtney, Christopher Shays and Chris Murphy said Friday they wrote to NASA Administrator Michael Griffin to ensure the process for picking a contractor is unbiased.

Connecticut-based aerospace manufacturer Hamilton Sundstrand, whose parent company is United Technologies Corp., is one of the bidders as a partner of joint venture Exploration Systems & Technology.

NASA selected Houston-based Oceaneering International Inc. in June, but terminated the contract last month.

NASA is reopening the competition after it was determined that errors were made in the original competition. To ensure a fair competition, the lawmakers want all parties to be able to revise their original proposals.
