GenTek Inc., which makes chemical and industrial products, said Monday it has made a $2.3 million voluntary pre-funding payment to its pension plans.

The payment has been taken as a deduction on the 2007 federal income tax return filed Monday, the company said.

The deduction will eliminate current federal cash tax obligations, the company said.

Shares of GenTek fell $1.01, or 3.5 percent, to close at $27.90 on Monday.
