CHICAGO (AP) _ Shares of Williams-Sonoma Inc. sank Monday as an analyst resumed coverage and warned that the home furnishings chain faces significant challenges as same-store sales and earnings per share continue to slide.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Shares of mortgage originator PHH Corp. plunged Monday despite an analyst upgrade as investors fled the mortgage and financial markets following a tumultuous weekend on Wall Street.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Shares of Axcelis Technologies Inc. fell nearly 70 percent Monday after the semiconductor equipment company said Japan's Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. has decided not to make an offer to buy it.

CHICAGO (AP) _ Shares of Charles Schwab Corp. declined Tuesday after the nation's largest discount brokerage reported a falloff in revenue from customer trades last month.
