Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. said Tuesday that it and two other companies have been awarded a $1.3 billion contract to replace a train bridge in New Jersey.
Jacobs said that it has formed a venture with Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems and HNTB Corp. for a New Jersey Transit contract to replace the Portal Bridge, a 98-year-old railroad swing bridge over the Hackensack River.
The two-track bridge carries Amtrak's Northeast corridor traffic, along with New Jersey Transit's commuter lines that serve new York City and the North Jersey coast. The bridge will be replaced with two bridges that will carry a total of five tracks. Jacobs will provide engineering work on the project, which is expected to be finished by 2017.
Shares of Jacobs fell $3.25, or 5.5 percent, to $54.80 Tuesday morning.
