Amerigroup will cover Nevada Medicaid patients

Health insurer Amerigroup Corp. said Wednesday it will begin covering people enrolled in the Nevada Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance programs effective Feb. 1, 2009.

Under the contract, Amerigroup Nevada will cover about 50,000 low-income residents of Clark and Washoe counties, or roughly half the number enrolled in the program statewide. The company currently operates in 11 other states.

In afternoon trading, Amerigroup shares fell $1.01, or 4 percent, to $24.13.
