Acme Packet names former Avaya COO Thurk to board

Communication equipment maker Acme Packet Inc. said Monday it appointed Michael Thurk, former chief operating officer of Avaya Inc., to its board of directors effective immediately.

Thurk was COO at the communications applications company from 2006 to 2008, Acme Packet said. He has held executive positions at several other companies, including Ericsson and Digital Equipment Corp., and is managing partner for Mariposa Consulting LLC.

Shares of Acme Packet rose 12 cents, or 3 percent, to $4.17 in midday trading.
