An analyst upgraded the cell phone company, saying it will be better able to attract bargain-hunting customers in a slow economy.

Yahoo Inc., up 92 cents at $11.55

Investors saw the resignation of CEO Jerry Yang as a sign Microsoft is likely to make another bid for the Internet company.

Stericycle Inc., up $2.26 at $61.13

The medical waste management firm will replace Anheuser-Busch, which is being bought by InBev, in the S&P 500 index.

Salix Pharmaceuticals Ltd., down 28 cents at $8.85

Rifaximin, a drug for travelers' diarrhea, has received patent protection for a new use, treating irritable bowel syndrome.

Defined-benefit plan: A defined-benefit plan is a retirement arrangement in which an eligible retired employee receives specified payouts from his former employer throughout retirement. The employer is responsible for managing the money to be able to make these pension payments, so the payouts can be reduced or eliminated if circumstances warrant.
