The trucking company reduced its earnings forecast and said it would cut its work force to adjust to slumping demand.

ArvinMeritor Inc., down 7 cents at $4.25

The auto-parts supplier said it is withdrawing its full-year guidance due to "continuing distress" in global markets.

Nucor Corp., up 27 cents at $40.98

A significant decline in shipments in the fourth quarter will push the steel producer close to a loss, the company said.

Kroger Co., down $1.84 at $25.47

Third-quarter profit fell 6 percent, and the grocery chain operator offered a cautious forecast for the rest of the year.

Corning Inc., down 20 cents at $8.79

The glass maker is weighing plant closings and job cuts as sales of LCD televisions rose less than expected in November.

Pep Boys _ Manny, Moe & Jack, down $1.30 at $3.69

The auto-parts retailer said its third-quarter loss narrowed significantly, but results still lagged Wall Street predictions.

Novellus Systems Inc., up 45 cents at $12.63

Its work force will shrink by 10 percent and the chip equipment maker will cut its CEO's pay in half as sales dry up.
