MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. said Thursday that it named Ahmad Chatila as its chief executive and president, taking over for Marshall Turner, who since November has worked as interim CEO.

MEMC, which supplies silicon wafers used in making chips and solar cells, said Chatila, 42, will take the position starting March 2. He will also become a member of the company's board.

Chatila previously worked as an executive vice president for Cypress Semiconductor Corp.'s memory and imaging division and as the company's head of global manufacturing.

Turner, who will remain a board member, had been tapped to take the place on an interim basis of former MEMC CEO Nabeel Gareeb, who resigned.
