CEO of Conn.-based The Phoenix Cos. retiring

CEO Dona Young, who began her career at Connecticut-based The Phoenix Cos. company as a summer intern, is retiring.

The company has announced that Young, who is chairman, president and chief executive officer, will retire next month after 29 years.

James D. Wehr, senior executive vice president and chief investment officer, has been promoted to president and chief executive officer and will join the Phoenix Board of Directors.

Thomas S. Johnson has been named non-executive chairman.

The company says all changes will be effective April 15.

Young will step down from the Board of Directors and will become a consultant to the company for one year.

The company, founded in 1851, offers insurance and financial planning services.
