Talisman Energy makes oil discovery in North Sea

Canadian oil company Talisman Energy Inc. said its subsidiary, Talisman Energy Norge AS, made a "promising" oil discovery in the North Sea.

The exploration well drilled on the Grevling Prospect is about 130 miles, or 215 kilometers, off the west coast of Norway and produced about 1,250 barrels a day from two zones. The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 3,268 meters.

Talisman has a 40 percent working interest in the Grevling discovery, Det norske oljeselskap ASA has a 30 percent working interest and Petoro AS holds the remaining 30 percent.

Shares of Talisman climbed 36 cents to $14.71 in afternoon trading.
