IntercontinentalExchange Inc., which operates futures and over-the-counter markets, said Tuesday its average daily trading volume rose 11 percent in May.
The Atlanta-based exchange said average daily volume rose to 967,182 futures contracts traded last month, compared with 872,215 traded daily in May 2008. Through the first five months of the year, average daily volume has increased 4 percent from last year.

In Canada, average daily volume rose 31.5 percent in May to 14,552 contracts, while average daily European volume fell 8.2 percent to 590,583.
