Zumiez Inc. said Wednesday that its same-store sales fell 20.7 percent in May, slightly more than expected.
Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, are a key indicator of retailer performance since they measure growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected the skateboard and snowboard gear retailer's same-store sales to fall by 20.2 percent.
The Everett, Wash.-based company said its total sales for the four weeks that ended May 30 fell 9.6 percent to $23.5 million.
Shares of Zumiez fell 7 cents to close at $9.88 Wednesday.
