Quantum Fuel partner opens solar cell factory

Alternative energy company Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. on Friday said its German partner, Asola, has opened a new solar-cell factory.

The factory in Erfurt will initially produce photovoltaic panels that produce 32 megawatts per year, and is expected to expand production to 45 megawatts.

Irvine-based Quantum owns 25 percent of Asola.
