Campbell Soup Co. said Monday its board elected Nick Shreiber, a retired CEO of Tetra Pak Group, as an independent director.

Effective Wednesday, Shreiber will succeed Philip Lippincott, who retired from the 16-member board in November after 24 years.

Shreiber, 60, served as president and CEO of Switzerland-based Tetra Pak from 2000 to 2005. He spent 18 years with the maker of packaging and equipment for food products. He retired from full-time corporate work in early 2006, and has since served as a management consultant and executive coach.

Shares of Camden, N.J.-based Campbell fell 1 cent to $29.52 in morning trading.
