Shares of some top coal companies were mixed at the close of trading:
Arch Coal rose $.01 or .1 percent, to $15.37.
Consol Energy fell $.80 or 2.3 percent, to $33.96.
Massey Energy rose $.08 or .4 percent, to $19.54.
Peabody Energy fell $.38 or 1.2 percent, to $30.16.
