Shares of some top gold companies were down at the close of trading:
Barrick Gold fell $1.32 or 3.8 percent, to $33.55.
Gold Fields fell $.34 or 2.7 percent, to $12.05.
Goldcorp fell $1.42 or 3.9 percent, to $34.75.
Newmont Mining fell $1.46 or 3.4 percent, to $40.87.
