Shares of some top telecom companies were mixed at the close of trading:
AT&T Inc fell $.38 or 1.5 percent, to $24.84.
Qwest rose $.05 or 1.2 percent, to $4.15.
Sprint Nextel fell $.11 or 2.2 percent, to $4.81.
Verizon fell $.63 or 2.0 percent, to $30.73.
