The Maryland Public Service Commission has granted a certificate for a proposed nuclear energy facility at Calvert Cliffs in southern Maryland.
The PSC issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity on Monday on an application by UniStar Nuclear Energy, a joint venture of Constellation Energy and EDF Group.
The certificate is required before construction can begin.
Constellation says the proposed facility would provide 1,600 megawatts of new electricity.
