Shares of some top coal companies were down at the close of trading:
Arch Coal fell $.14 or .9 percent, to $15.23.
Consol Energy fell $.09 or .3 percent, to $33.87.
Massey Energy fell $.62 or 3.2 percent, to $18.92.
Peabody Energy fell $.14 or .5 percent, to $30.02.
