Shares of some top gold companies were down at the close of trading:
Barrick Gold fell $.94 or 2.7 percent, to $34.06.
Gold Fields fell $.58 or 4.6 percent, to $11.96.
Goldcorp fell $.67 or 1.8 percent, to $35.62.
Newmont Mining fell $1.92 or 4.6 percent, to $40.26.
