02/06/97 - Final Word On AT&T Spinoffs
On February 26th, 1997, the Fool Portfolio completed its 39th trade by accepting the share buy-back offer from NCR CORP. (NYSE: NCR). The Fool Portfolio was given eight shares of NCR on January 2nd, 1997, as a spin-off from other port holding AT&T (NYSE: T).
NCR offered to buy shares back from individual investors in any share amount under ten, for a fee of only $10. By accepting this buy-back offer, the Fool avoided paying commissions on the sale. We would have had to sell NCR in August anyway, as part of the Foolish Four switch, so selling to the buy-back offer saved us from paying full commission on the mere eight shares. The sell report covers the topic and NCR in general.
Please note: though the buy-back offer was accepted by the Fool on February 26th, we won't know the exact price we received on the shares for two to three weeks from that date. It will be approximately $35 per share, though. As soon as we have the exact number, we will update this.
