Questions
Answers
- If I've registered for the seminar, do I still need to register at Fool.com?
- Yes! In order to post messages on our discussion boards and participate in your team's discussion, you need to register as a full-fledged Fool (if you're not one already). Sign up for free on our registration page and we'll send you a confirmation to verify your Fool.com registration. (Important -- please register with the Fool using the same e-mail address that you used to register for the Seminar.) You'll need to sign up as a Fool before you post on the boards.
- How will I receive my lessons?
- All you need to read your lessons is an internet connection. From the Seminar Start Page you can read any lesson by clicking on the Lesson Plan in left hand margin. No special software is required, all you need to read your lessons is an internet connection.
- Do I need to "show up" for class on a certain day?
- No! That's a benefit of the self-paced seminars! You can start as soon as you receive your confirmation email and you can take the seminar on your own time, at your own pace. Most people aim to finish the seminar in two months, although you have access to all of the material for three months from the day you receive your confirmation email.
- How do I prepare for the seminar?
- We suggest that you read the Seminar Tour before you get started. This quick introduction gives you tips on how to take the seminar, navigate through the materials and understand the tools.
- What's the best way to read my lessons?
- The lessons are designed so that you can do all of your work online, but many people like to print out their lessons and take notes while they are reading.
The lessons should be read in the order they appear, and at your pace to allow you time to effectively digest the information and complete the assignments, but you can also jump around to different lessons and homework assignments if you prefer.
- How much time do I get to complete the seminar?
-
- After you receive your confirmation email, you have unlimited access to all of the seminar materials for three months. During this time you have the flexibility to move through the materials at whatever pace is comfortable for you, but most participants say that tackling one or two lessons per week keeps them on the right track.
Will I always have access to the lessons? How do I save my lessons?
- You will have access to the online seminar materials for three months. In order to save the materials you can cut and paste the contents of the lessons or seminar materials into Word or any other word processing program and save them to your hard drive or a disk. If you would rather work offline, you can print out your lessons.
- How do I ask questions?
- There are two basic ways to ask a question. The first place you should head to is the seminar discussion boards. These boards are staffed with community leaders and Fools to help you get answers to your questions. If you have a technical problem, like you are having trouble printing or downloading something, or have problems with a link, you can contact customer service directly.
- How do I use the seminar discussion boards?
- One of the beautiful things about online seminars is that you have the opportunity to get feedback, ask and have questions answered, and actively apply your new knowledge in interactive exercises. We do a lot of this using the seminar discussion boards. You will find links to the Seminar Discussion Boards in homework assignments and in the Course Info box on the right hand side of each seminar page. Once you get to the boards, click on the board you want to post on and post your questions and thoughts. If you are new to the boards, we suggest you check out the Seminar Discussion Board FAQ before jumping onto the boards.
- Who are Seminar Leaders?
- Our Seminar Leaders are carefully selected from the Fool community for their knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication. They are all seminar veterans and are here to help keep the peace, answer questions, facilitate discussion, and help you with whatever you need.
- What does "TMF" mean?
- TMF is short for The Motley Fool. If you see someone with TMF before his or her screen name, this means that he/she is a staff member at The Motley Fool.
- What is a download and do I need to use them?
- Some of the self-paced online seminars provide you with downloadable files to help you work through your own scenarios or provide additional information. A "download" is just a computer file. "Downloading" is the process by which a file gets from our computers to yours. Your lessons will indicate whether or not there are any downloads associated with your course. If there are, you will be able to download them either from a link in the Course Resources area or directly from the lesson. We will provide you instructions and downloading tips at that time.
- I'm new to investing and/or the Fool, what should I do?
- If you are new to The Motley Fool and would like to check out some beginning investing information, visit our Fool's School and The 13 Steps to Investing. To learn more about the Fool, take our Fool Tour.
If you still have questions, post them on your seminar discussion board!
