Fools, since investing and business principles are inextricably linked, let me introduce you to the greatest businessman in my family's history. Each of us has one of these on our family tree -- and I say, each of us can learn a great deal from these star ancestors.
Our family's great success was my great-uncle, Andrew Tsiropinas. He was the 18th child of my paternal great-grandparents. Uncle Andrew came to the United States during the Great Depression, with little education and even less training. But what he did have was a tremendous work ethic, the force of necessity, and boundless energy. He started as a dishwasher and worked his way toward opening his own restaurant. During his 60-year professional career, he owned seven restaurants, a small motel chain, 250 cigarette machines, and a nice load of Coca-Cola shares, purchased in the 1930s.
As best I can, I've tried to make his steadfastness, ambition, and creative energy a part of my life.
