Our last special on 20 Stocks Worth a Closer Look proved to be of great interest to many Fools, so we thought we'd follow up with a special that examines a particular kind of company -- the blue chip. For those who don't know, "blue chip stock" is a term used to describe large and stable companies with established track records. Our last collection included a few blue chip companies -- McDonald's (NYSE: MCD), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), Nokia (NYSE: NOK), Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), America Online (NYSE: AOL), and others -- and you can read about them there.

This feature lists a bunch of additional blue chips that might be worth your research time. I asked my fellow Fool writers to name some blue chip stocks they thought held some promise. Below is the list that resulted, with links to articles that can jump-start your research.

Note that these are not recommendations. They're just companies that seem particularly interesting to one or more Fool staffers. (As one writer said in our last collection, "For all of them, the operative word is interesting. I'd hate to think anyone took my views as a recommendation.") There are probably some blue chip companies on the list that will perform very well over the next few years, while others may be in for some tough times. Note also that Fool staffers usually have different opinions on the merits of various companies. Some, for example, might be very bullish on Boeing (NYSE: BA), while others might be wary.

Consider this a beginning, not an end, to your homework.
