Young Fools

Are you wondering why we're calling you a Fool? Do you feel insulted? Well, don't. We proudly call ourselves Fools, and here's why.

A lot of old stories, including many of Shakespeare's plays, feature a king and/or queen surrounded by advisors. Then there's also a silly fellow wearing a hat with bells on it. He's the court jester -- the Fool. The royal advisors only tell the king what he wants to hear, since they don't want to have their heads chopped off. But the Fool entertains and amuses the king and can get away with telling the truth.

For us Fools, you're the king or queen. We're here to tell you the truth about how you can be smart with your money and watch it grow. We even hope that in time, you'll consider yourself a Fool as you tell your friends the truth about money.

In this new corner of The Motley Fool, we're building you a place to learn about money -- how to get more of it, how to grow it, and how to use it.

Here's what we've got for you so far:

Why Invest? We realize that most young people don't want to spend much time thinking about saving and investing money. You'd probably rather be out spending it. But learning a little now, while you're still young, can make a huge difference for the rest of your life. Here we make the case for investing and point out some things about money that a lot of adults don't even realize.

How to Grow a Million Dollars: Here we explain how money grows. It's all a matter of "compounding."

All About Investing: Visit this area to explore different ways to invest your money and how to go about it. Want to know what makes bonds better than bank accounts? Why baseball cards might not make you rich? Head on over to this area.

Stocks! It's no secret that the Motley Fool thinks that anyone who can invest their money for at least 3 to 5 years (and ideally for decades) should park it in stocks. That's why we've given stocks an area of their own. Learn all about them here.

A Glossary: If you ever stumble upon an unfamiliar word in our areas, it's probably explained here. If it isn't, just let us know and we'll probably add a definition for you.

Teens & Their Money: This is a message folder dedicated to discussions of teens and money. We'll warn you that there are some adults prowling around there now, but the folder really belongs to young people and it's there for you to use. Give it a chance and post any thoughts or questions. As more kids pop in, it will become more like what we and you would like it to be.

Is that it? Not at all. Poke around, see what's here, and then tell us what you think. Give us good ideas and we'll work to put them in place. We want to make this area as fun and useful as possible.
