After quitting our jobs and selling almost all of our possessions (including our house and one of our two cars) we moved over a thousand miles away to sunny Florida to live the Disney FIRE Lifestyle.
I never see anything in FIRE numbers taking into account paying for parents and considering their situation. All we focus on it seems is when WE can be financially independent.
We have no mortgage, we live on about $1,000 per month with a full time staff, two cars, a motor boat and a couple of trips abroad during the year.
What if, instead of a lump sum donation, we invested the sum in low-cost index funds and donated 4% of the fund’s value annually? Couldn’t we do this, potentially, into perpetuity?
I like the term “movement snacks” which is the principle that we should treat movement like we do snacking. Americans snack too much and don’t move enough. Feeling hangry? Ok then, go do 10 push ups. That’s a movement snack.
