<THE HARRY JONES PORTFOLIO>
by Harry Jones
(April 8, 1999) -- I have a book that lists inventions and when they came about. Alarm clocks didn't exist until the 1910s. It's a shame that they were ever invented at all. I typically wake up before the sun does, and I don't use an alarm clock, but Lucinda sets it and if I'm in the house I hear it and I hear her wake up in an unhappy, unnatural way. I don't think alarm clocks were in the big plan. The sun was supposed to be the alarm clock and if you were up before it, you had a head start.
Packaged processed cheese was invented in the 1910s, too. No comment on that.
The S&P rose 1.29%.
