James Bond has climbed back to the top of the U.S. box office figures, data from Box Office Mojo reveals. The super-spy's latest film Skyfall took in the most from cinema ticket sales over the weekend, with $10.8 million. The movie is a resounding success, with more than $260 million in domestic receipts and $657 million abroad so far this year, against an estimated budget of $200 million. The film is distributed by Sony's (SPE 0.99%) Columbia Pictures.
Second place belonged to another film that's been in release for some time, the holiday-themed Rise of the Guardians from DreamWorks Animation (DWA). It took in $10.4 million to bring its domestic total to $61.7 million, but that's relatively disappointing, as its budget was an estimated $145 million.
The top four were rounded out by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, the final installment in the young adult vampire series, and the historical drama Lincoln.
Twilight collected $9.2 million this weekend, bringing its total gross to just under $270 million. The film is distributed by Lions Gate (LGF-A -0.78%) subsidiary Summit Entertainment.
Steven Spielberg's biopic of the American president enjoyed a good weekend, bringing in $8.9 million to reach a total gross of nearly $100 million. It is distributed by Disney's (DIS -0.83%) Buena Vista.
