You're right to be nervous about using Java in your Web browser. But that doesn't take away from the platform's importance to enterprise computing.
This week, Oracle (ORCL -0.71%) found and patched a huge amount of security holes in its Java plugin for Web browsers. While it's never a bad idea to plug security holes, the update comes after a well-documented spree of Java hacks.
