Tech companies have conquered our desks, our pockets, and even our laps, but they've had little success in the living room so far. Apple (AAPL 0.64%) has made some progress with Apple TV, but Google (GOOGL 1.27%) TV was basically a flop, and Microsoft (MSFT 1.65%) and Sony (SONY 0.31%) have yet to turn gaming systems into multifunctional devices for all consumers.
