The Department of Defense awarded 21 contracts Thursday, worth just under $1.246 billion in combined value. One of the bigger winners for the day was Northrop Grumman (NOC -0.02%), which walked away with two contract wins:
- $46 million in the form of a "firm-fixed price, cost-plus-fixed fee, cost-type contract" to produce proof of manufacturing components for MK 54 mod 0 array kits to be incorporated into the Mark 54 MAKO lightweight torpedo. Thursday's contract win pushes the total value of Northrop's contract past $294 million. Northrop is expected to deliver the proof components by July 2016.
- $8.1 million in exercise of a second option to operate and maintain the Department of the Navy's Naval Criminal Investigative Service's (yes -- that's Navy NCIS) law enforcement information exchange system, and also the Department of Defense's law enforcement information system. This contract now runs through Sept. 30, 2014.
