After months of speculation and waiting, Google (GOOGL -1.82%) has officially announced its new flagship Nexus 5 smartphone. Google has again partnered with LG to build the device, with Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS -0.14%) onboard as official carriers. The Nexus 5 will be compatible with AT&T's network, so unlocked devices can still be brought to Ma Bell. The Nexus 5 will importantly include LTE support, unlike its predecessor, and get a slew of other spec upgrades.
The device has already quickly sold out of initial inventory on Google Play, suggesting healthy demand. It's important to remember that the same thing happened last year, but LG didn't supply nearly enough units to satisfy consumers. Nexus devices continue to set the bar for the broader Android ecosystem, and the Nexus 5 will continue in that tradition.
