You probably spend a lot of time in your master bathroom, so it's natural to want to make it as luxurious as possible. Here are a few features that could really enhance that space.

1. A steam shower

Imagine turning your master bathroom shower into your own private steam room. Well, you can do just that by installing a humidifying steam generator. Of course, you'll probably want to install a shower bench so you can sit comfortably and relax during your steam sessions, too.

2. An oversized or jetted tub

There's nothing like settling in for a warm bath after a long day. An oversized tub will give you more room to stretch your legs and spread out, while built-in jets will give you the experience of your very own water massage.

3. Double sinks

If you share your master bathroom with a significant other, you're probably all too aware that the routine of jostling for sink space can get old. The solution? Double sinks, so you each get your own. You can install high-end faucets for an ultra-classy look.

4. Heated towel bars

Ever notice how hard it is to pull yourself out of a warm bath or hot shower? Having a nice, hot towel to wrap yourself in will make that transition easier, and a heated towel rack or set of bars is your ticket there.

5. Radiant heat

Chances are, your master bathroom is the first room you visit when you get up in the morning. But stepping onto a cold tile floor with bare feet can make for a very rude awakening. That's why radiant heat is a great investment for your master bathroom. Radiant heat differs from the forced-air heat you may be used to in that it heats surfaces, like your floor, directly. The result? A much more pleasant experience when you step into the bathroom to brush your teeth or gear up for a shower.

Choose your renovations wisely

All of the above features have the potential to turn your master bathroom into a deluxe escape. That said, be careful not to go overboard on upgrades if your goal is to increase your home's resale value more so than anything else.

According to Remodeling Magazine's most recent Cost vs. Value report, a midrange bathroom remodel offers a higher return on investment than an upscale bathroom remodel. Specifically, the former offers a 67.2% return on investment while the latter offers a 60.2% return on investment, so you may be better off sticking to some of the above suggestions -- not all.

That said, home renovations offer value beyond return on investment -- they offer the opportunity to enjoy your living space more. If you're less concerned with the investment angle and simply want to upgrade your master bathroom for your own comfort, then don't hesitate to go all out -- as long as you've run the numbers and understand that you may not get all of your money back when the time comes to sell your home.
