What I like about the card

$500 sign-up bonus -- You’ll earn this bonus by spending $3,000 in the first three months. A $500 bonus is much higher than what most cash-back cards offer, and it’s even more impressive considering the Chase Ink Business Cash℠ Card has no annual fee.

Up to 5% cash back -- This card has some of the highest cash-back rates you’ll find across several popular expense categories. Here’s what you’ll earn on your spending:

  • 5% cash back at office supply stores and on internet, cable, and phone services, capped at $25,000 per account anniversary year
  • 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants, also capped at $25,000 per account anniversary year
  • 1% cash back on all other spending

No annual fee -- You get this card without an annual fee, so it’s great for keeping expenses down.

0% intro APR -- There’s a 12-month intro period with 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers, which means you can use this card to finance business expenses or transfer over any credit card debt you have.

Purchase coverages -- The Chase Ink Business Cash℠ includes two types of purchase coverages that can protect what you buy for your business:

  • Purchase protection -- New purchases have 120 days of coverage against damage and theft for up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account.
  • Extended warranty coverage -- Your card will automatically add another year onto any eligible warranty of three years or less.

Why you can trust me

Credit cards are my forte, and even though I have cards from several different banks, I’m particularly fond of Chase’s credit card lineup. I’ve had six different Chase cards so far, the Chase Ink Business Cash included, and I’ve used them to earn over 300,000 Ultimate Rewards points and over 50,000 United miles.

What could be improved

Caps on cash-back bonus categories -- The $25,000 spending caps are low compared to many other business credit cards. If you have substantial business expenses, then you may reach those caps and only earn the 1% cash-back rate for the rest of the year.

Balance transfer fee -- The card has a small balance transfer fee. Even though this card's competitors also include a fee, it's a fee nonetheless.

What to look for in a business cash-back card

The most important part of a business cash-back card is how much it’s going to earn you, for the first year and beyond, after you subtract the annual fee. You’ll be in good shape with the Chase Ink Business Cash℠, as no annual fee means nothing’s coming out of your pocket for the card.

Thanks to the sign-up bonus, the card has a high first-year value. Its cash-back rates also help it maintain its value. Several of the bonus categories, including office supplies, internet service, phone service, and gas, are areas where business owners often spend quite a bit.

If you have some major expenses on the horizon, then you’ll also need to consider what kind of intro offers your business card has. The Chase Ink Business Cash℠ excels here with its 0% intro APR offer.

Suggested credit score

Although there’s no hard-and-fast credit score requirement for the Chase Ink Business Cash, a score above 670 will help.

Since this is a business credit card, you also need a business to get it. Card issuers are fairly flexible on what kinds of businesses they accept, and you could apply with any for-profit venture you have, such as freelance work or selling products online. Your business doesn’t even need to have any profits yet and you can even still apply with your personal social security number.

Why you need to know about Chase’s 5/24 rule

Chase has a unique restriction called the 5/24 rule that affects applications for most of its cards, including the Chase Ink Business Cash℠. When you apply, Chase will check how many personal credit accounts you’ve opened in the past 24 months. If you’re at five accounts or more, your application will be automatically denied.

Combining Chase cards to earn more rewards

With the Chase Ink Business Cash℠, all you have are cash-back redemptions. That’s to be expected. But if you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® you can actually transfer the cash back you’ve accumulated on the business card to Chase Sapphire Preferred® to increase the redemption value by 25% by redeeming Ultimate Rewards points through Chase. Because of this option, a popular strategy is to carry multiple Chase cards and use whichever card will earn more on each purchase.
