The Citi Double Cash® Card does not offer standard purchase protection. Citing low usage, Citibank removed damage and theft purchase protection from some of its credit cards in 2019.
The current card page lists a section for "purchase protection," but this is not the same benefit. Here, they use the term to describe protection against paying for unauthorized purchases. Most other issuers refer to this type of "protection" as $0 fraud liability.
The old Citi Double Cash® Card purchase protection benefit was for damage or theft. Protection covered purchases for 90 days from the date of transaction. Cardholders could get up to $10,000 per incident to cover the repair or replacement costs of the covered item. The benefit was capped at $50,000 annually.
That wasn't the only cardholder benefit that customers lost in 2019. The Citi Double Cash® Card also put an end to the much-lauded Citi® Price Rewind program, which reimbursed you if your recent purchases dropped in price. Return protection and extended warranty protection were also cut for Citi Double Cash cardholders that year.
Other than its 2% cash back (1% when you buy, 1% when you pay), the card's current benefits are limited. They consist of basics like a free monthly FICO® Score, Citi® Identity Theft Solutions, Lost Wallet® service, and $0 fraud liability. For a full look at your Citi Double Cash® Card card benefits, you can check your Benefits Guide, which typically arrives with your physical card in the mail. Alternatively, you can log into your Citi online account and select "Card Benefits" under the "Rewards & Benefits" menu.
