(April 23, 1999) -- I spent the week on a tractor. I'll be spending the weekend on a tractor, too. That's one thing about farming: the crops don't take the weekend off. Neither do the insects. They aren't here in force yet, but you know that they're out there somewhere, growing up in little egg sacs and waiting to attack with all the energy of a man gone bad.
You always need to be prepared for the certainties in life. One certainty is that the insects will come. Another is that things change. One more is that the world grows bigger with people every new day. If you're invested in the world, maybe that won't bother you so much.
Those are some certainties. Only a child doesn't prepare for certainties.
The S&P lost 0.15% on Friday.
