On Oct. 11, Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD) released earnings for its 2005 third quarter, which ended Sept. 25.

  • Sales of $1.52 billion and EPS of $0.18 blew away Street estimates.
  • Oh, what a difference six months can make. Back in April, AMD's core computer business booked $750 million in revenue. Q3's total was $969 million, or a 29% increase from Q1. The company attributed the gains to record server, mobile, and desktop sales.
  • The momentum could continue. Fourth-quarter guidance calls for microprocessor sales to be from 42% to 50% higher than Q4 last year.
