The biggest problems with the PC industry are as follows:

    1. Too many players, which offers TOO much competition. It may be great to have so many choices in companies, but most of them don't offer great support. Plus, until you have experience with one brand over another, most of the consumer products are basically the same thing.

    2. Too many different models. What happens if you are a company that spends R&D money to design a new model and because you have 100's of models to choose from, some don't sell, therefor not making profit. Many of the products have to be blown out at below cost or dumped in landfil. Oops. Those mistakes are COSTLY.

    3. You have to rely on Microsoft. Microsoft comes out with an OS every 3 years or so and some of their OS's SUCK. Windows Vista. Nuff Said.

    4. What happens when a new technology like Thunderbolt comes out, but the drivers aren't there so the consumer can't take advantage of a i/O port that Mac users can do. Oops... Oh, those stinking drivers.

    5. Windows is just more costly to support. Does the user call Microsoft when they have a problem with their Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer, etc.? NO. They call the mfg and they many times have to go BACK to Microsoft to wait for a yearly Service Pack, which sometimes solves the problem, but many times, you have to wait for Service Pack 2. Oops.

I am not a techie but know about a few things. Apple OS is Linux based. Oracle is Linux based. Under the radar, Linux and Oracle will continue to infiltrate.
