Much like the wine industry in California, Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD 1.65%) has made its opposition to hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in Germany well known. Due to purity laws dating back to the 1500s, German brewers are worried about the contamination of their water sources, which must remain absent of any unnatural additives. 

Other than geological impossibilities, environmental issues have ranked near the top of the list of headwinds facing the industry. That's why it would be wise for companies that stand to profit from its widespread use to address these issues in their research and development phases.
