Shares of Verizon (VZ -0.68%) have been on quite the run of late. But is the company still an attractive buy?

The company isn't exactly a bargain, and it's also a established, mature company in a relatively low-growth area. We aren't talking about some hot dot-com here. However, one of the real beauties of Verizon isn't its growth, but its power within its market. Few would deny that Verizon and AT&T (T -1.37%) share an effective oligopoly in the U.S. telecom market.

However, the thing that makes Verizon truly interesting is the potential for it to buy the remaining 45% stake in Verizon Wireless that it shares in a joint venture with British telecom powerhouse Vodafone (VOD 1.16%).
