Recent estimates on the tablet market in the second quarter show Apple's  (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) position slipping as rivals gain. Samsung in particular is becoming a larger threat, and ASUS has benefited greatly from building Google's (NASDAQ: GOOGL  ) Nexus 7. Apple's iPad units came in soft last quarter, but the devil is in the details.

    Don't forget about K-12 sales. They will show up in the next quarter for the 2013/2014 school year. Every K-12 textbook publishers has standardized on the iPad. iPads are slowly replacing books and the publishers have been aware of that for years. When the school year ends, the parents are likely to buy junior an iPad to use in the summer months too, because the schools keep the iPads over the summer.
