The Good News for Amazon's "Alpha House"

The e-tailer is finally getting serious about challenging Netflix, but will it be enough?

Amazon.com (AMZN -1.65%) may have picked the right time to begin airing Alpha House, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Why? Netflix isn't pushing any major new originals while HBO's top shows are on hiatus. Amazon should get at least a little breathing room to draw in new viewers to its absurd political comedy. Four episodes have aired as of this writing, with a fifth about to become available.

Better still, Tim says, is that Amazon is getting serious about distribution. A more comprehensive Instant Video app allows streaming not only on smartphones and tablets but also on once-forbidden territory, such as Apple TV. Having the extra outlets could make the entire service a more viable alternative to Netflix.
