Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over market movements, we do like to keep an eye on big changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.
What: Shares of PowerSecure International, (POWR.DL) jumped 10% today after announcing $50 million in new business.
So what: PowerSecure announced $24 million of turnkey distributed generation business, $2 million in utility infrastructure business, and $24 million in energy efficiency sales. What's impressive is the size of these projects, which are a little less than an average quarter's revenue.
Now what: One of the projects is a 3 MW solar project for a biotech company, a move into a growing solar business. Strategically, these are solid wins because energy efficiency and small distributed generation projects are a growing portion of the energy industry. I'd like to see a better value from shares than 23 times forward earnings but this is progress toward growing the bottom line.
