Hi. My name is Harry Jones, and I'm new at this, so bear with me. The Harry Jones Portfolio is a real-money portfolio I'm investing out in front of you, like the others in this Motley Fool area. You can read more about me and my investment principles elsewhere on this page.

By the way, I don't own a home computer, so my friend Irv takes dictation from me and sends it in to the Fools by e-mail. High-tech, I know.

Today I started my portfolio by purchasing 16 shares of S&P 500 Depositary Receipts, ticker symbol SPY (also know as "Spiders"), at $124 17/32 apiece and paid a commission of $49.50 for a grand total of $2,042.00.

The S&P 500 was down 0.09% today, and the Harry Jones Portfolio was down 3.62%.
