Dueling Fools: eBay

One of the hidden nuggets of Foolishness can be found in our author disclaimers. They're not always the boilerplate language you find on other sites. We are encouraged to flash a little personality in the italicized footers.

What I like to do when I write about eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) is to let everyone know my feedback rating. That is the rank eBay dishes out to its users after every mutually satisfying transaction.

Well, I've been stuck at 172 -- and it's not because I've been a bad boy. I just don't spend as much time on the site as I used to. Maybe it's the third-party merchants with great deals on Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) or the simplicity of comparison-shopping sites like CNET's (Nasdaq: CNET) MySimon or IAC/InterActiveCorp's (Nasdaq: IACI) Pronto.com that are keeping me busy elsewhere.

I'm not sure. I just know that we haven't tackled eBay in Dueling Fools so far in 2007, and I am feeling pretty bearish on the company. I still needed a bull, and my fellow Foolish contributor Tim Beyers came through. He's got some good arguments in favor of the Stock Advisor newsletter recommendation. Let's see whether he can sway me.

More importantly, let's see if he can sway you.

Duel on!

Longtime Fool contributor Rick Munarriz still has that eBay feedback rating of 172, and he doesn't own shares in any of the stocks mentioned in this article. eBay and Amazon.com are Stock Advisor picks. CNET has been recommended in the Rule Breakers newsletter service. The Fool has a disclosure policy.
