    Yup - Whitney has it right here. Focus on the fact that 8$ gets the subscriber enormous value. A competitor that wants a piece of the pie really needs to carve out a distinct niche, with distinct content. In that case, it's not a substitution for the consumer but a complementary service.

    Amazon is losing it's ass with little to show for it. But they are beginning to diversify away from Netflix by picking up contracts that Netflix passes on. In the long run this makes them a possible complementary service. That is, if they don't give up entirely.
