An Intel (INTC 1.77%) spokesperson has confirmed FierceWireless' report that the company acquired Fujitsu's semiconductor wireless product unit in an effort to bolster its LTE portfolio.

Regarded as one the most technologically savvy wireless teams in the industry, this move speaks to Intel's longer-term goal of integrating key wireless technologies into its semiconductor products. Consequently, Qualcomm (QCOM -0.20%) investors may be feeling like Intel is slowly emerging as a formidable competitor.
